Bajari Bhakari, a traditional Indian flatbread made from pearl millet flour, is a nutritious and hearty dish. Popular in rural and urban India alike, this gluten-free bread is packed with essential nutrients and is a staple in many households. It pairs beautifully with curries, chutneys, or just a dollop of ghee. Beyond its delightful taste, Bajari Bhakari has several health benefits, making it an excellent addition to a balanced diet.
Ingredients
2
1 cup Pearl millet (bajra) flour
1 cup Water
Tips
Always use fresh bajra flour for best results.
Knead the dough well to avoid cracks while rolling the bhakari.
Cook on medium heat to ensure even cooking and avoid burning.
Directions
In a saucepan, boil 1 cup water over medium heat.
Gradually add 1 cup bajra flour and stir continuously to mix well.
Turn off the heat, cover the pan, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Once cooled, knead the dough until smooth and pliable. If necessary, wet your hands slightly to avoid sticking.
Divide the dough into 4 equal-sized balls.
Flatten each ball into a round disk using your hands or a rolling pin. Aim for a thin, even circle.
Heat an iron tawa (flat skillet) on medium heat.
Place a rolled bhakari on the tawa.
Spread a little water on one side of the bhakari and cook until the water evaporates.
Flip the bhakari and cook on the other side until brown spots appear. Repeat for all bhakaris.
Serve warm with your favorite curry, chutney, or ghee.
Notes
People with kidney issues or those on a low-potassium diet should consume it in moderation due to its potassium content.
