Drumsticks Mix Dal, also known as Shevga Aamti, is a nutritious and flavorful lentil curry that combines the goodness of moong dal, red lentils, and drumsticks. This traditional dish is packed with protein, fiber, and essential vitamins, making it a perfect addition to a balanced diet. It is light on the stomach yet rich in taste, making it an excellent choice for lunch or dinner.

quarter cup Moong dal
quarter cup Red lentil dal (masoor dal)
1 piece Tomato, Medium
2 pieces Drumsticks
half teaspoon Turmeric powder
1 teaspoon Red chili powder
half teaspoon Garam masala or goda masala
1 piece Tamarind
1 teaspoon Jaggery
Salt as per taste
1 tablespoon Oil
1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
half teaspoon Hing
6 pieces Curry leaves
6 pieces Garlic Cloves
Coriander as per choice
Fresh coconut as per choice
4 cups Water
Tips
Soaking lentils helps in reducing cooking time and makes them easier to digest.
Adjust the spice levels as per your preference.
If tamarind is not available, you can substitute it with lemon juice or kokum.
For an added nutritional boost, you can add vegetables like carrots or bottle gourd.
Directions
Wash and soak moong dal and red lentil dal for about an hour.
Transfer to a pressure cooker, add 2.5 cups of water, chopped tomato, and turmeric powder.
Cook on medium flame for 3 whistles.
Wash and cut drumsticks into large pieces.
Heat 1 cup of water in a pan, add drumsticks and cook for 10-15 minutes until tender.
Set aside.
Heat oil in a kadhai.
Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add hing, curry leaves, and minced garlic. Sauté until aromatic.
Add cooked dal and cooked drumsticks to the tadka.
Mix well, and if required, add warm water to adjust the consistency.
Add salt, red chili powder, garam masala (or goda masala), tamarind, and jaggery.
Mix well and cook for another 7-8 minutes.
Garnish with fresh coriander and grated coconut.
Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.

Individuals with IBS or bloating issues should avoid excessive consumption of lentils.
