Ingredients
4
150 grams Red Rice
50 grams Urad dal
1 teaspoon Methi seeds
Tips
Ensure proper fermentation for soft and fluffy idlis.
Adjust salt according to taste preference.
Serve hot with sambar and chutney for a complete meal experience.
Directions
Rinse the red rice, urad dal, and methi seeds thoroughly and soak them together in water for 6-8 hours.
After soaking, drain the water and grind the mixture into a smooth batter using a grinder or blender. Add water as needed to achieve a thick yet pourable consistency.
Transfer the batter into a large bowl, add salt according to taste, and mix well.
Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and allow the batter to ferment for 8-10 hours or overnight in a warm place.
Once the batter is fermented, grease the idli moulds with oil or ghee.
Pour the batter into the moulds, filling them to about 3/4th of their capacity.
Steam the idlis in a steamer for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Once done, remove the idli mould from the steamer and allow them to cool for a few minutes.
Carefully unmould the idlis using a spoon or knife.
Serve hot with sambar and chutney.
Notes
Red rice is known for its high antioxidant content, which aids in reducing inflammation and lowering cholesterol levels.
