Ingredients
2
1 cup Tur dal
9 cups Water
half teaspoon Turmeric
quarter teaspoon Hing
half teaspoon Salt
Ghee as per taste
Tips
While beneficial for many, those with aggravated pitta should consume it occasionally (once or twice a week).
Directions
Wash the tur dal twice to ensure it's clean and free from impurities.
In a soup pot, combine the washed tur dal, 4 cups of water, turmeric, and hing.
Cook uncovered over medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
After 30 minutes, add 4 more cups of water and continue cooking until the dal is tender, approximately 50-60 minutes more.
Beat well with an eggbeater after adding the last cup of water.
Stir in the salt and allow the soup to boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat.
Before serving, add 1 teaspoon of ghee to each bowl of soup.
Notes
For added flavor, consider garnishing with fresh cilantro or a squeeze of lemon.
Adjust salt according to taste preference.
Pair with basmati rice for a complete and satisfying meal.
